Okay, I rarely, rarely...lets just say never, become obsessed with a book and it's author! But here I am wildly nuts about this writer and his fabulous way of relating to horses and really to all of life, humans included. If you haven't heard of Buck Brannaman, I forgive you. Go on youtube and check out some of his videos. Take a look at the documentary, "Buck" on Netflex to get a good idea of what's going on here. This guy is so authentic it brings me to tears. I have learned more from this book than any class I've ever taken. I plan to schedule a trip to one of his clinics..yeah, it's a clinic for horses, not people, I'll just be an observer, but I would pay just about any price to see this guy in action. Where does his power of observation come from? Evidently, from a great deal of personal hardship and the courage to make the right choices in the face of such abuse.Thank you Buck for one of the greatest books ever. We owe you big time. What a story! It's amazing how the things we suffer the most in life can become the very source of the thing we do the best. Buck's experience of childhood abuse was actually the education that drew him towards the style of "horse-whispering" he later employed with horses. There are just greatly insightful lessons here about how we should relate to others, especially how we can truly help one another face and deal with the things that have caused us inner pain from our life experiences. In abuse recovery there's an explanatory phrase often used: "Hurt people, hurt people". Unless we successfully face and deal with our own past affecting painful experiences in life and take its effects seriously, we will tend to live out from our unresolved pain and take those effects into every relationship - with people or horses, or anything else.
